Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to common questions about NLUO Cuttack, admissions, academics, and campus life.

What makes NLUO Cuttack stand out from other NLUs?

+

NLUO Cuttack has earned its reputation for academic rigour and state-of-the-art facilities. It is not one of the newcomers to NLU since it already has an excellent NAAC Grade A status and is placed 15th in NIRF 2025. The 50-acre campus university in Cuttack has air-conditioned lecture rooms, a gym, athletic courts, and a new library that has 15,500+ resources, which are also a draw to the other older NLUs. Also, NLUO focuses more on research and interdisciplinary studies, a benefit to ICTA because it also has other programs besides law, like management and healthcare.

Does NLUO Cuttack offer international exposure?

+

Yes, and NLUO has enough international exposure in terms of collaboration with other universities, exchange models, and research connections with international universities. De Montfort University and the University of Waikato, along with other institutions, have collaborated with NLUO to provide visiting faculty lectures, student research project opportunities, and the occasional offer of exchanges. Besides, NLUO sponsors international seminars and moot court competitions that serve as platforms drawing students across the globe, and that provide the participants with an opportunity to mingle with foreign scholars of the law profession and also international practitioners.

How competitive is admission at NLUO?

+

The admission environment in NLUO has become increasingly competitive in recent years. In the case of BA LLB (Hons.), the 2025 cut-off range in the All India general category took between 943 and 1013; this puts NLUO in mid-format NLUs as far as cut-off difficulty is concerned. This implies that aspirants have a high CLAT score in order to get a seat, particularly when the institute only accepts a given number of intakes in a certain program. Nevertheless, the cutoff ranks that the state quota candidates will enjoy might be relatively low.

Is CLAT mandatory for admission at NLUO?

+

Yes, in the majority of law courses, there is no other way than CLAT in NLUO. Applicants have to pass entry-level assessments in CLAT UG to be admitted to undergraduate programs like BA LLB (Hons.) and BBA LLB (Hons.), and to experience post-graduate admission, it is required to pass CLAT PG. Some cases do require even PHD students to pass on UGC NET or CLAT-PG. But, in the case of non-law courses like MBA Healthcare Management or short-term course certificate programs, CLAT is not applicable, and the students are allowed to apply on merit.

How affordable is NLUO compared to other NLUs?

+

The fee structure of NLUO is comparatively average compared with Tier-1 NLUs. The charges of BA LLB/BBA LLB first year amount approximately INR 2.17lakhs, whereas the price of EIIM costs INR 1.67lakhs. By contrast, there are older NLUs that are over INR 3-4 lakh yearly. Besides, NLUO offers scholarship opportunities such as Merit-Cum-Means scholarship and accepts the government-paid scholarships such as UP, MP, and Rajasthan. This is why it is one of the suitable choices to which students should turn in order to get quality education without any excessive costs.

What co-curricular activities are available?

+

NLUO boasts of a brilliantly lively student life. The moot court, debates, and Model United Nations (MUNs) all find favor with the administration and are an activity that encompasses the participation of students. There are also legal aid clinics and community outreach programs that are held in the university to provide students with the opportunity to work on real-life legal matters. Sports and cultural activities, such as Kaustubha (its cultural fest), make sure that life outside the classroom is not dull.
